One of my favorite baby shower gifts is a Carter’s dress that we received from my from sister-in-law. It has black and white stripes with a big red sparkly heart above the words “j’adore.” Another favorite is an orange and white Carter’s zip-up that makes me think of creamsicles. I can’t wait to dress my little girl in them!

Now that Halloween is past us and we’ve eaten all the candy corn and miniature Snickers bars that we can hold, it is time to turn our attention to one of my favorite of holidays – Thanksgiving. Although Thanksgiving has become as commercialized as all the rest of our holidays, you can still create a special family event that brings years of memories without destroying the budget.
Here is a list of ten wonderful frugal and homemade Thanksgiving decorations.
There’s nothing like a solid, heavy-bottomed pot. I use mine regularly for stews, browning meat, and sauces. The 3-quart Bertolli pot we are giving away today, which sells for $89.95, is a great one to have in your kitchen because it’s big enough to make most dishes, but not so heavy you’re going to hurt your back lifting it! The prize package also comes with meal coupons and accessories!
This would be a great gift for the person who loves to cook! I plan on giving mine to my little brother (shhh) because he is just learning to cook and having high-quality kitchenware makes it so much easier.
Today we are launching a giveaway for more than $100 in Bertolli products, listed below.
Don’t forget to check out our on-going giveaways for Diary of a Wimpy Kid,a $169 HP Photoprinter and Snapfish gift card, a $100 Fashion Playtes design your own clothing gift card, a $180 fancy hair dryer and flat iron, and a $99 Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker, blender, and electric wine opener, $99 HP HD webcam, a $99 doll, train, and toys from Cracker Barrel, a $100 Lands’ End gift card, $100 in storage cubes from Way Basics, $100 in holiday cards from DaySpring, and a $199 Rockboard scooter!
The Rockboard scooter is like a regular scooter on steroids. And it is exactly what I would want if I was 8-13 (give or take). Instead of pushing with your foot, you rock back and forth to propel the scooter forward. The faster you rock, the faster you go. Way cool.
The scooter folds up to fit in the back of your car and can hold up to 200 pounds (so the grown ups can ride it too!) Rockboard scooters are sold at Target, Toysrus.com, and on Amazon.
Today we are launching a giveaway for a $199 Rockboard scooter (original size, not the mini). Coffee Coffeemaker, blender, and electric wine opener, $99 HP HD webcam, a $99 doll, train, and toys from Cracker Barrel, a $100 Lands’ End gift card, $100 storage cubes from Way Basics, and $100 holiday cards from DaySpring!
I’ve sent holiday ecards, traditional paper cards, and skipped the whole process some years. But there’s nothing like hearing from friends and family. Sometimes hearing from folks I’m no longer in touch with (except for their holiday letter) are the ones I enjoy the most.
My husband thinks it’s ridiculous that people only get in touch because it’s Christmas. But he’s just being grumpy. Wouldn’t you rather hear from friends and family than not at all? I can promise you my holiday card this year is going to be devoted to my little bun (who is still in the oven).
Spend not a penny on high-quality holiday cards from DaySpring by entering to win this giveaway!

All this cost me just $48.60 - 70% off!!!
Time to brag. Yesterday I went to The Body Shop and saved 70% off my total bill by stacking coupons and discounts. WOWIE! Here’s how I pulled it off. (If you don’t have a store nearby, you can shop directly through the site or get built-in discounts on The Body Shop products on Amazon.)
I bought 13 items that rang up for $162, including Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion SPF 15, Seaweek Mattifying Day Cream (that I use at night), and gift-size lip balm, lip butter, body scrub, body butter, and conditioner , pictured above.
I used a Buy One Get One Free holiday promotion coupon from a mystery bag that the clerk offered me. As soon as I entered the store she told me about the promotion, so as long as you shop in store you should be able to get a similar discount. The coupons vary but I pulled a really good one! This took off $68.
I redeemed two Groupons, worth a combined $80, that I paid $40 for. This saved me $40.
I used my Love Your Body Card, which takes 10% off . This shaved off $9.20.
At the store I paid just $8.60 for all this loot. That’s $3.70 per item!
Part of the reason why I was able to stack so many coupons and discounts was that the sales clerk was willing to help! I’ve noticed this in past trips so I’m guessing The Body Shop has a corporate policy to help their customers save as much as possible. By the end of the transaction, I felt guilty getting so many great skincare products for so little! Plus, my receipt has a 20% off coupon for any in store purchase before Nov. 30, 2011. Hot dang!

Wanted to share this video from Daily Finance (AOL) on how to find leaks that are making your heating bill higher than it needs to be, and fixes that cost as little as a few bucks.
Even if your utility company doesn’t provide a free energy audit to find leaks, the video has a secret to doing it yourself! I really need to make time for this stuff!
My weatherizing to do list:
- Check if my utility offers free energy audits
- Finish insulating basement pipes with foam insulation that we have laying around!
- Caulk leaky windows
- Buy and install insulation strip for drafty front door
What weatherizing projects are you not looking forward to doing?

“I can’t believe we’re putting together furniture with tape,” my husband said.
I kept my mouth shut.
We were assembling five Way Basics storage cubes in the baby’s room that seemed, quite frankly, flimsy. Each cube is made out of four thick pieces of laminated, recycled paperboard and a thin back piece, so they are extremely light. Even the pegs that hold the pieces in place are made from recycled paper!
When we pulled off the protective strips to expose double-sided tape and stuck the pieces together, however, my skepticism turned to a smile. No more flimsy!
These cubes are perfect for our nursery and we quickly filled them with diapers, receiving blankets, and more diapers. Now I wouldn’t load these shelves with anything heavy like books or a glass vase. But they are ideal for lighter items. Super easy to assemble because they require no tools or hardware. And you can move them around much easier than, say, a heavy wooden bookshelf. I stacked mine, above, but you can also use them in a row.
Below is a video showing how they are assembled.
Today we are launching a giveaway for five Way Basics storage cubes, worth $100.
