airplane seats 300x225 Get cheap flights by tricking airlines?!

Is getting off a flight partway to save money ethical? Credit: stevendamron/Flickr

One solution to finding cheap flights is to get off the plane early, suggestions a story in Sunday’s New York Times Magazine. So-called “hidden-city ticketing” is when you book a cheap flight to Vegas, for example, but deplane during a connection at your true destination of Salt Lake City.

What’s going on here? Flying to smaller airports with fewer flights is more expensive than flying to a major airport like NYC, Vegas, Miami, or Boston.

Obviously, this doesn’t work for non-stop flights. But for connecting flights, the New York Times Magazine reporter found four instances where buying a ticket directly to a big city, but then getting off at the connecting city, was less than 50% of the cost of buying a ticket to the connecting city. Examples:

By Bobbi Burger Brunoehler of Bobbisbargains.

Oh, the joys of yard sailing. You never know what you might find. Each yard is an adventure. A possibility. Untold riches might be sitting on that table in the driveway, just waiting for you to say, “How much do you want for this?”

There are several yard sale items one would not readily consider to be worth digging for, but indeed, they are the golden jewels beneath old paperbacks and broken toys. Here are eight examples of treasures found:

  1. Electric toothbrush replacement brushes. These little gems sell for $10 a piece. They are individually wrapped, but sold in packages of four. I have twice found packages with 3 still sealed brushes. Both times, I purchased all three for a dollar, saving myself $58.
  2. Bookshelves. It seems that no matter how much people originally paid for their bookshelves they always sell them for (more…)

This is a post by BargainBabe.com writer Yazmin Cruz.

Plus, think of all the toxins you’ll be adding to your garden. Here are five suggestions to keeping your garden weed free while avoiding toxins and high costs.

  1. Grubbing - This is the best know method for removing weeds in the garden. It doesn’t cost much, but requires a lot of elbow grease. Break up

skort 204x300 Major cash back rebates this week!

A skort similar to one I want to buy w/ cash back rebate. Credit: Dana Beveridge/Flickr

Holy guacamole! Just got an email from Shortcuts.com saying it is offering a 12% cash back rebate at more than 100 online stores. Wahoo! It’s unclear when the 12% rebate ends, but I have an email into headquarters and will ask. See below for a list of participating stores. Note, Shortcuts is a Frugal Festival sponsor, but this is such a hot deal I would have written about it no matter.

If you’re new to cash back sites, here’s how it works.

Step 1. Click the link above to see the full list of retailers offering 12% back back, then click on which retailer you want to shop at. (I’d click Athleta as I’ve been eying their skorts for my summer beach volleyball league.)

Step 2. Sign in or register at Shortcuts.com.

Step 3. Click “Shop Now” on the Athleta page (or whatever retailer you want to buy from). Shortcuts creates a tracking ticket and if you buy something, sends you a check in the mail for the rebate amount.

The math for my hypothetical purchase works like this:

dress e1304190059946 225x300 Retail credit cards with perks: I saved $49.38

I saved $49.38 at Old Navy's Stuff & Save sale.

This is a post by BargainBabe.com writer Yazmin Cruz.

This past weekend my sister and I headed to the mall in search of a graduation dress for her and a couple of gifts. We ended up at Old Navy where we found an adorable dress. Although I’m reluctant to use retail credit cards because of their high interest rates, I was delighted to score a discount when I charged my Old Navy card.

I intended to pay with cash but the sales associate asked if I wanted to save 20% on my purchase.

“Oh, I already have an Old Navy card,” I responded. I didn’t know they were having their Stuff & Save promotion were you get 20% off of anything you can stuff into an adorable reusable bag.

“If you charge this purchase, you’ll get the discount.”

“Really?”
