Computer frustration 293x300 Update on problems with images and garbled text

I'm getting frustrated with this image problem. Are you?

I’ve run a diagnostic test of the daily BargainBabe.com email and images and text appear normal in AOL, Gmail, and Outlook 2003 (the only three programs I was able to test). To further diagnose this problem, I need more specific info from you. Please leave a comment with this info.

1. Are you having trouble seeing images in other emails? Or just BargainBabe.com emails?

2. When did the images STOP appearing? Are the images consistently not there, or is it a mix of some images and some text?

3. Instead of an image, are you seeing a complete blank? Or is some text showing up along the lines of:

lemonpasta 300x200 Lemony pasta recipe

If some text is showing up, the problem is probably on your end.

4. If no text at all is showing up, what email program do you use? Examples include Hotmail, Yahoo, Lotus Notes, Mac Mail, Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Windows Mail, Entourage, Live Mail, or on a particular mobile device.

5. Are you seeing garbled text? What does it look like? Are you seeing special characters that you almost never see? Or is normal text overlapping with other text?

Thanks for being as specific as possible so we can root out this problem and fix it!

And thank you for your patience.

I read your blog with Google reader. I have not seen anything but red X where graphics should be in several weeks. It doesn’t happen with other blogs I read…

I read your blog with Google reader. I have not seen anything but red X where the graphics should be in several weeks. The other blogs I read the pictures are all there. Hope this helps.

    It’s working A-OK in Outlook 2007.

  • pam Says:

Google reader her too. I have some text. Through Hotmail no pics red x.

  • Sally Ewing Says:

I,m seeing pics now but they appear to be blocking some text. I can only see the first couple of letters on each line of text. However, full text is available upon clicking on title. (Hotmail)

I got all the images ok on today’s email, but yesterday, same thing:
a gliph (with red x) where the image should be and almost no text.
I have SBC Yahoo and don’t have any problem with any other emails I received (a lot of them are from sites you’ve recommended….)
On gmail (I use two emails to help me oversee how my idenity (just like today, for you) is getting passed around.
There are some emails I received (Brad’s Deals, which I love) always comes with a popup (from gmail) that asks me if I want to see all the images or just the safe (according to them) ones. For sites I know, I click on NO for no controls—but I do get some emails which when I open it, I have to click on a line that asks me if I want to see all the images—this usually only happens once, gmail remembers after that.
    Some, they ask everytime…

I’ve read that Outlook is the one email you don’t want…more problems with viruses, etc,
I was spoiled using Outlook when it was the email system at work but I’m happy enough with Yahoo…of course they’re trying to get me to switch to the new system…I’m resisting…

I too am seeing pics now but they are blocking some text (as Sally Ewing describes above). I’m also using Hotmail. No problem with other emails.

  • Kristen N. Says:

I am seeing pictures today instead of red X but the images and/or X’s are covering the text so I only see 1 or 2 words. This only happend with your emails. I click the link via aol webmail and use Internet Explorer 8. Hope this helps!

I get your emails via gmail and I read them through Firefox. They come through fine with all the pics :)

Today the pictures are back – woo-hoo!
I get email through Yahoo and when the picitures disappeared there was a blank box with a BLUE X in it. BargainBabe was the only siite with this problem.

  • Bob Says:

I use Outlook 2007 and have never had an issue with your emails. Images and text are clear.

  • Michelle Ventresca Says:

I get my email through AOL and everything is fine and dandy now!

  • KayC Says:

I see only two characters on the left side (not two words as some have reported), then the picture overlays the rest of the text (leaving a blank space to the right). This is a change from yesterday (and last week) when it had the box with a red x (and no picture)overlaying the area where text should have been.

    1. Just BB e-mails.
    2. Last December!
    3. I still have the e-mail I sent you in Dec. 2010 on which I attached a screen shot of the image. I will re-send that to you since I can’t provide an attachment here.
    4. Gmail. However, I have found the problem to be browser-related as I also previously shared. I have no problem with FF, Chrome, or Safari browsers. For me, only IE is the culprit.
    5. See screen shot referred to in #3.

Email is for text, the web is for pictures. Anything that attempts to display pictures or non-text formatting in a web-like manner via email is at best a kludge. You can do it, but you can’t expect it to work reliably in all cases.

  • Sue Sanders Says:

Personally, I would prefer to not have so many pictures – just when necessary to show something specific – it makes the file too big and makes my mailbox go over it’s limit if I don’t have a chance to read and clear the e-mails daily. It would also eliminate the need to do so much clicking on “read more” to see each item.

  • Diane Says:

@ Sue ~ Get Gmail. It has a tremendous amount of storage (they tell you not to delete anything, but I do), has MANY amazing features, and it’s free! No, I don’t work for Google. :-)
