When I was a little girl, I always wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day. Being quite young, I had no money. This posed a problem. I would fret and worry and think and create and each year I came up with something new. They certainly weren’t expensive and they certainly weren’t great works of art, but now that I am a mom, I KNOW that my mom cherished them.

Just in case you are in need of something frugal and full of love for your mother, here are eight ideas. Feel free to use them and sign your name with love to your mom.

1. Find a quote book about mothers or love or family at a used book store. Find pages with quotes that ring true to you. Put a picture of you and your mom and a little note about how that quote represents some time you had together. Put little pretty bookmarks on the special pages. The goal of this project is that your mom should get teary-eyed reading your gift.
2. Make your mom’s favorite

   dessert and invite her over to share it with you (or take it to her house). Serve on the very best china that you have. Make it fancy and intimate. Make her laugh.

3. Find a picture of yourself and your mom when you were young. Arrange for someone to take the same picture of you and your mom today. Put both pictures in a frame.
4. Write a poem for your mom telling her how much you love her. Type it up nicely and frame it.
5. Decide with your mom that you are going to help her do something that she is having trouble doing herself, such as exercising each day or learning a new word each day. Promise to help her achieve this goal. And then DO it.
6. Make an origami magic rose cube. Give to mom. Show her how to make it herself. Fun.
7. Buy a plant for your mom and plant it. Each year do this. After a while, her garden will be full of wonderful plants from you. Mom’s really like this.
8. If you have a large family, make a memory scrap book. Buy a scrap book and give each family member one of the pages. Have each person make a memory page. Put them altogether and present to mom. A wonderful present!
9. Personally, I love it when, for Mother’s Day, my family cleans the house, helps me with my favorite projects, help prepare a nice dinner and laugh a lot all day. A great day.
