Bargain Babe's Halloween costume!
I really am obsessed with money. After dressing up as a black eyed pea on Thursday, I made a vending machine costume for a Halloween pub crawl on Saturday and turned a dollar profit!
I cut up a cardboard box, taped items onto a white piece of thin poster board fitted into the box, and made a change hole in the lower right corner. I duct tapped an empty tin can on the other side of the change hole to collect money and used a diagonal strip of tape across my back to (more…)

Readers shared a wide range of experiences with Angel Food Ministries, which sells boxes of groceries that retail for about $65 for $30. (I mentioned AM in a post Friday.) The box is supposed to feed a family of four for a week or a senior citizen for an entire month.

I’m guessing you have eaten generic groceries before. But did you know that in a scientific test, generics equalled or surpassed brands two-thirds of the time?
I recently talked to Sue Perry, deputy editor of ShopSmart magazine, a publication put out by Consumer Reports, about the rising quality of generic groceries. If you have not taken a chance on generic grocery brands, in-house labels are better than ever before. In a scientific test of 21 products, 14 generic labels “were better if not as good,” Perry said. “That’s a pretty good track record.”
