For a long time I organized my grocery coupons by stuffing the entire insert into a manila file folder and marking it with the month and date the flyer arrived with the Sunday newspaper. (If you get your coupons in the regular mail, look for a teeny tiny date printed at the very top of the crease on the cover).
But that used a lot of folders.
The folders took up space and it was a waste to mark them up, even if I could cover the date with a sticker and mark them up again. Did I need to use so many folders and stickers? (more…)

This question just came in from a reader in Southern California:
Can you suggest sources of quality dresses to wear on job interviews? Most stores don’t seem to carry business dresses anymore. The key factor wanted is QUALITY with conservative designs. Would like to pay no more than $100 for an interview dress, if possible. Pantsuits are not the best choice for my field and age group, but skirted suits are ok. Any ideas? I am a mature job applicant who does not look appropriate in wild, trendy styles.
My immediate answer was (more…)
Don’t forget to enter the latest BargainBabe.com contest to win a $600 shopping spree at Sears! Just think, all your holiday shopping done without spending a dime (of you own)!
To be eligible to win, join the BargainBabe.com daily or weekly email list. Enter by Nov. 21, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST to be eligible.
If you already receive my emails, you are automatically entered to win. Sears donated the gift card and flip camera for this contest.
Rules to be aware of:
- I’m going to come along to share shopping tips and record the event with a flip camera, which means the shopping spree must take place in MA, CT, RI, or New York City. I can only drive so far!
- The winner must shop for a family of four, including a mom, dad, son, and daughter. I’m checking to see if we can define “family” a bit more broadly.
- The shopping spree will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 5, 2010 at a Sears in MA, CT, RI, or New York City.
- I’ll be recording the event with a flip camera, so if you’re camera shy do not enter.
- You must be 18 or older to be eligible to win.
- The reader will get to keep everything s/he buys with the $600 Sears gift card, of course!
Got a question? Leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it.

Have early Black Friday deals spread to grocery stores? I cracked open my weekly grocery flyer and couldn’t believe the deals! I read the flyer each week so I’m familiar with what is a “good” price for many items. This week’s deals are so amazing I am waking up early to hit my local Stop & Shop before work. Here are the deals I hope to bring home.
Land O’ Lakes butter is 2 for $5. Normally 1 pound boxes start at $4, plus I’ve got a coupon. I’ve been considering upgrading from the store brand to a high end line since I heard you can really taste the difference. Incredibly, the ad does not mention a limit so I am going to stock up big time. Butter freezes great! (more…)
So many readers chimed in to share stores that offer a gasoline discount, which is how I saved $.80 off per gallon, that I wanted to re-post the information for everyone.
The gas programs vary, but basically the more you shop at a store, the bigger the gas discount. At my local Stop & Shop, I earn 1 point for every dollar I spend, with weekly bonuses that range from 200-400 points. For every 100 points I accumulate, I get $.10 off per gallon. The points last 30 days so my balance is constantly revolving.
Thanks to Camille, Christine, Barbara Sagat, Celia, Shannon, Iggy, Diane, Jennifer, JT Ward, Cathy, Aneta, Talliana, Linda, Dan, Florence, and Karyn for compiling this list! (more…)

There’s a new site – Lifesta - that makes it especially easy to take advantage of the amazing deals on Groupon, Living Social, and others. Lifesta is a marketplace to buy deals you missed or sell your Groupons that you can’t use.
If you didn’t plan in advance, you can still search Lifesta for vouchers to use immediately. Before you head out, do a quick search of the site for matching deals. Once you pay for the deal, you can download and print the voucher right away.
Lifesta processes payments through Amazon, so when you are ready to buy a deal you’ll be routed to Amazon, where you can log in and pay with any of the methods they accept. Safe, huh? If within 60 days of purchase you find a problem with the voucher, Lifesta guarantees a refund as part of its Lifesta Deal Guarantee. No need to go through a Paypal-style arbitration process.
Register on Lifesta in about 45 seconds by plugging in your email, a username and password, and your city. Or, you can register with your existing Facebook account. It’s easy as 1-2-3.

I plan to do a lot of my holiday shopping online to avoid the dual duty of driving to the mall and then packing everything off to the post office. With a few clicks, my gifts will be headed straight for my friends and family.
If you shop online, here are 12 questions to ask to determine if your credit card info safe and to ensure a site is legit.
1. Is the site a trusted retailer?
2. Have you or a close friend shopped there before with good results?
3. Is the retailer registered with the Better Business Bureau? Are there unresolved complaints? How were previous complaints handled? (more…)
This is a guest post from Philip Taylor of PT Money: Personal Finance, a site dedicated to helping you make more money, save more money, and spend your money wisely.
It’s that time of year again. Everyone is struggling to come up with Christmas gift ideas, and some may be wondering how to pay for it all. A tempting solution is to put your good credit to work for you and use a collection of retail store credit cards to pay for all your gifts.
On the surface, it looks like a smart move: retail store cards often come with a huge upfront discount and promises of future discounts; plus, you don’t have to pay for Christmas until the end of January. But there is more to it than that.
Here are 4 reasons why it’s a good idea to skip the retail store card. (more…)
