Here are some ideas to make your dollars stretch.
1.���� Compost it � If you�re ready to get rid of your Jack-O-Lanterns make sure you remove any left over candle wax and chop the pumpkin into small pieces. Toss the pumpkin pieces in your compost and let it turn into black gold. Don’t have a compost? No problem. Here’s how to make your own composer for about $4.
2.���� Eat it � If the pumpkin is still in good condition, you can freeze it and save it for later use in your Thanksgiving pumpkin pie or make one now. Try making a delicious pumpkin soup, pumpkin bread or roasted pumpkin to have as a side. Don�t forget to use the seeds. Roasted pumpkin seeds are delicious, but be careful not to burn them. Separate the seeds from the fibers, roast them, and salt lightly.
3.���� Plant it � The seeds, not the pumpkin. Save the seeds and plant them for next year. By growing your own pumpkins, you�ll be saving money and can have fun teaching your kids or friends about gardening. Remember to plant seeds from at least three or four pumpkins, as you want to make sure that you have a mix because pumpkin plants come in either male or female. You will need both to produce pumpkins instead of just vines and flowers.
4.���� Decorate it � Your house, that is. Use any leftover pumpkins that are uncarved to set an autumn mood in your home.� You can create centerpieces by cutting the stem and adding flowers and a candle. You can also turn your pumpkin into a turkey centerpiece by having your kids help you add feathers and googly eyes.
