swag 225x300 Reader contest: win BlogHer swag worth $249

My stuffed swag bag from BlogHer '10

This contest has ended.

I received a ton of swag this past weekend at BlogHer ’10, one of the biggest blogger conferences in the country. All of the swag I received is highly branded. The idea is to get influential bloggers to try new products in hopes they will blog about them, generating sales. I don’t plan to write about any of these items (other than this post) because I don’t do product reviews. (See my About page Ethics policy for details about my commitment to transparency on editorial and paid content.) But I thought a reader would enjoy the swag.

To win my swag bag, leave a comment with a suggestion about one thing you would improve on BargainBabe.com. Comment by Thursday August 12, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST!

  • Cathie Says:

Some of the posts–the CVS and grocery store sales–aren’t applicable to a lot of people. We don’t have Vons or CVS here! Is there a way to broaden the site’s appeal? I end up skipping over a lot of posts.

  • Annie Sherman Says:

I think the logo could be improved/changed. It is just not very eye-catching :( Other than that, awesome information, frequent enough, useful enough! THANK YOU!!

  • Brandy B Says:

I honestly don’t know of anything about your site that I feel needs improving.
Yes, there are some posts I don’t read because the are locals deals or for stores I don’t have around here, but you are going to have that.
Thanks for your blog! I love it!

  • Megan Hollenbeck Says:

Video blog casts would be fun if each were of an advice topic. You could keep it separate from articles or coupons you find.

  • Rocio H. Says:

The only thing is when your email newsletter comes out. I don’t like having to click on a link to get to the rest of the article. I do enjoy your site, but sometimes I am not in the best wifi areas. And can’t access your articles when I click on thru to the main site. Thanks for the chance to win your swag bag =)

  • Laure Says:

    I have 3 suggestions:
    (1) In the email that subscribers receive, have a few more lines – a full paragraph? – so that we can more fully get a flavor of the article before we decide whether to click to read the full article.
    (2) Set up the site so that when you click on one story from the email update, the other full stories from the email follow it, rather than having to separately having to individually go into each post.
    (3) Add a button to the site of “Email this to a friend” so we easily can share posts we think are particularly relevant for friends…thereby also spreading the word about your blog!
    Thanks!

  • Jeanie Molinar Says:

I would love for you to have postings about purchasing healthy nutritious foods on a budget.

  • mary anne Says:

i would love to see “fun, free things to do for families” be a regular feature of yours every week. thank you.

  • sara loud Says:

Gosh, I love your site…I guess…total nitpick…it would be great to get the email summary earlier in the day.

  • Ellen C. Says:

Maybe you could write more about filing taxes, credits that are available and ways to increase our refunds.

  • Jennifer M Says:

We have really bad internet here and so when I receive your newsfeeds I like to click on the links that interest me. Unfortunately with your site I end up having to click mutiple times just to get to the article I want to read. That means sometimes I don’t get the article because my internet doesn’t want to do mutiple clicks. If that could change I would be at your site SOOOOOOOOO often :)

  • Elizabeth Says:

I think your readers might benefit from an additional tab for various “calculators.” I know there are a bazillion out on the web, but to have one place where you can find the best ones for being frugal in one spot would be really useful!
I would also add an easy to fill out form for your readers to share information we’ve found in our area, maybe searchable by area?

  • Jessica R. Says:

I love reading your articles every week. Thank you for that. For my improvement suggestion… I would suggest redesigning your site. Make it lot more welcoming and fun like your attitude and the tone of your writing. I could be a little bias, I am a web designer and it’s what I do for a living, but I believe a great designed site can say a lot about you and could bring a lot to your blog.

  • Rebecca Says:

First of all I love that you are adding more personal stories… but that is not what you asked. I would enjoy seeing more fashion on a budget articles. I think they would be fun to write and fun to read!

  • Melissa B. Says:

Maybe have regional “guest” writers from different parts of the U.S. telling about deals in their area? Great job!

  • angel garvin Says:

I would like to know the REAL OOP cost on things. Everyone posts costs after rebate or they include the value of rite rewards. I rarely have very much cash and 99% of my food is bought with food stamps. I want to know at a glance how much something is going to cost me right now!
Thanks for doing what you do!

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Megan Hollenbeck What are some advice videos you had in mind? I’m not quite sure I understand you, so an example would be helpful. THanks!

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Laure Great suggestions! I am going to try to implement 1 and 3 right away. No. 2 is a great idea, but I’ll have to check if my email newsletter software allows it. Thanks!

  • Lauren Says:

I like the idea of fun, free family things…my hubby and I are always looking for new things that aren’t expensive!

  • Valerie Says:

I love the articles I read on Bargain Babe, but I would love to hear from more guest writers too.

It would be great to benefit from the frugal thoughts of a wide range of bloggers. Maybe blog posts from frugal athletes, outdoorsmen, travelers, vegetarians, soccer moms, professionals, etc. etc. It would be cool to hear from the “experts” their thoughts on how to save money in their specialty area.

    Love your blog!

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Jeanie Molinar You are in luck because this is a topic I am currently working on. Look for something next week!

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Jennifer M There is a link at the top of each newsletter that says something like, If you are having problems with links go straight to the BargainBabe.com homepage. Click on this link and you will see ALL the posts on the site, starting with the most recent.

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Rebecca Great suggestions! I’m not much of a fashionista but I will keep this in mind. Thanks!

  • camilla Says:

I think you are doing a great job. I like the personal angle. I think you should continue in that vein and resist the urge to broaden your appeal just to gain readership.

  • Heidi Says:

I can’t think of too much to improve, but a low cost or free events section would be great! Love your blog!

  • Katy M Says:

I love your posts about beauty items the most. I’d love to see more department store/ cosmetic company bargains!

    Thanks!!! :)

  • tracy Says:

well you started up in ca and we dont have some of the coupons like chick a fil and stuff but its ok but i do love how you send it early so i can offers brfore i go to work

  • Myke Says:

One thing that I would like is a search of the website to easily find info by a keyword. It would be easier to type in the word “hotel” and get a list of the hotel bargains and tips or at least a link to the specific postings.

  • Kenya Says:

I love the deals that you post. It would be nice if you made the blog more attractive. Looks blocky and texty.

  • Aileen Clarkson Says:

Move the categories closer to the top of the page. The buttons at the top (About, Bargain Buzz, etc.) are not things I would click on frequently, and they’re eating up valuable prime real estate. Move them down and move up the hot topics.

  • Kathy Thomas Says:

you could add a shout box
    livingoutloud3 at gmail dot com

this is an awesome prize, so many goodies!

  • Heather Says:

I think it would be cool to take Bargain Babe national & then have specific e-mails for major markets (for example: see http://www.dailycandy.com – they are not bargain, but you can subscribe to a broad “Everywhere” e-mail or pick the specific city you live in to get focused info).
Then, maybe to help build the cities, find reps from each of the major markets to compile the deals for their city.
I really think this could take you to the next level!
Imagine having a BarbainBabe LA, BargainBabe Chicago, BargainBabe NYC, etc…!!!

  • Rona Says:

I wouldnt change the content of your blog but I think I would change the look and feel of it. I think maybe some header changes and perhaps a diffrent background. Basically change some of the makup on your blogs face to make it more catchy. :)

Other then that this is a great site.

  • Barbara H. Says:

Julia, I’ve followed you since your Daily News days. I love the simple, breezy tone of your blog. I would be interested in more articles on things to do rather than things to buy. Other than that, please don’t make major changes. Keep it real!

  • Mellany Says:

Julia, keep up the good work! My recent discovery on your site is reference to favorite recipes. Something that would refer to Recession Buster recipes would be interesting. Otherwise, I find your blog entertaining and informative. Keep it up! Thanks for the chance to win the swag!!

  • Mei Says:

Your site is already great and I love reading the articles. I would love to see a section where crafters can find great deals in their area on supplies….for example, jewelry making supplies/scrapbooking, etc. & have your readers tell about where they’re finding the deals/sales in their areas. Just a way for people for connect.

  • Pam957 Says:

I love your emails. I would love to see the return of the Lincoln Lunch or something like that. Although, it’s more of a local thing, but I really like it. You could actually have your readers from other areas submit their Lincoln lunchs.

  • jennifer Says:

I love your blog. The one thing I would change is not having the CVS deal posts (or other stores) each week. I read some other blogs that do that…for every store, actually, and I like yours more because it ISN’T cluttered with those type of posts.

I like to read your ideas rather than “here’s where you can get free shampoo”. Thanks for asking for feedback! I think we’d be friends in real life!

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Kathy Thomas What is a shout box???

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Heather You dream big – I like it!

  • Sam Says:

I don’t have a Ralph’s near me so I would love to see a similar deal update on a place like Whole Foods or Stop and Shop. (Yeah, yeah, I know… there aren’t any deals at WF.)

  • Susan S Says:

I watched you on the news promoting the clothing swap and have clicked on the guide of how to do it, but would love more detailed info on how to start a swap of free stuff that we don’t use! I do donate what I can but would love to be able to combine that with swapping!!

  • estella miller Says:

I would have to agree with Myke. A “keyword” search would be really useful! thank you for the giveaway!

  • Shawna OBrien Says:

When I get your emails, I think that your headlines that draw you in to click and actually go onto your site could be improved by making them more catchy to draw you in. I’m sure like a lot of people, I get a ton of emails and cannot read all of them. Therefore, I skim the headlines and if it looks interesting to me I click and go into the website. I love your site, but I think that your headlines don’t always drive home the fact that you have something very awesome on your site that one would be crazy not to check out.

  • barbi Says:

I love your site. can’t think of anything I would change.

  • bargainbabe Says:

@Shawna OBrien Excellent tip! I am not sure if I am customize the subject headings of my daily emails, however. I will check. Thanks!

  • Maria Says:

A great idea I could offer for your site might be more phOtos you have taken in your posts. Thanks so much for the chance to enter :-)

  • Katie Says:

I love your articles but I do think a redesign on the overall look would help. The look doesn’t equal the content and could be off putting to new readers.

  • The Unethical Man Says:

Since you can blog from anywhere on the planet, become a nomadic bargain black belt several weeks out of the year and report your bargain finds based on personal experience from different cities across the U.S. and/or abroad. On the show, Man vs. Food, Adam Richman travels all across the U.S. to show you the best places you’ve never heard of to pig out. If you can do something similar to that, you would not only appeal to a wider audience, but get those of us that live far away to check them out for ourselves. For example, I have never been to NYC or Atlantic City. If you still lived out here in southern California, you could blog about the super deal you found to fly to NYC and a bargain place to stay while checking out at least a dozen key sites without breaking the budget. Then point out the best way to get to Atlantic City to check out the famous Boardwalk and hotel/casinos.

  • Natasha Holstine Says:

It’s hard to say what I would “improve” from your site because I LOVE getting the tips from your site…but, maybe you could have a section where it just says FREEBIES for the day…like when you shared that Chick-Fil-A was having a free meal for a day etc…then, someone could just go to that section for the day….

Thanks! The swag bag looks AMAZING! I can’t wait to go to Blogher next year!:)

  • Veronica Says:

Keep up the great work! Have been following you before since you were at the paper :)

I would enjoy being able to click on any article that I receive and able to read the day’s entire post.

    Look forward to future posts!

  • Sunnie Says:

I dont really have any issues with your site or your email newletters. Maybe in the posting part in the leave a reply box, have our name and email come up automatically. What an awesome giveaway, how generous of you!

  • Sharon A Says:

I agree with Heather. Regionalization could be your future.

  • Katie T Says:

A site design redo? And more stories from your personal life…how you are personally saving money and living the frugal lifestyle are always interesting and encouraging!

  • Elena R. Says:

I would love a blog on way’s to purchase healthier food on a budget.

  • Evie Says:

Julia, you know I love you and the site. I would love to see some more recipes, especially ones for dinner. Always looking for things to do with the stockpile that I have in the house. Slow cookers are the best, but anything would be great. Need some new recipes. Or, maybe, ask for suggestions from your readers or have a section for people to post and share recipes?

    Love.
    Evie

  • Anna D Says:

I am a new reader and the first thing that didn’t catch my eye was the background and logo.

  • meghan Says:

Honestly, I like the website the way it is.
    Has everything I need.

  • Ann Says:

I would suggest more pictures on your blog posts. Shorter sentances, getting to the point, pictures- like a newspaper column.

  • Stephanie Says:

I would love to see more about “repurposed” or “upcycled” projects made from things I probably already have laying around. Love your website!

  • BitWrangler Says:

I’ve been a happy follower of your writing since the days of the Daily News. Now that you’ve started a new path in your life, exchanging West Coast for East Coast, I think your website needs a whole redo. New experiences, new events, new look — but I know you’ll keep the great tips & information coming.

Of all the emails/blogs I receive, I always read yours top to bottom — just so I don’t miss anything. So I agree with the suggestion that a little more teasing would be welcome on the main page before we click-to-continue-reading the full article.

Keep up the good work. I’ll keep reading.

  • Mary Beth Says:

I like it just the way it is! Thanks for the good articles.

  • Pamela M. Says:

You could use a bit of color on the blog. I think it is too “white”!

  • Nina Knight Says:

geez, how to you improve perfection??!! thats a tough one!!! um, honestly, im not sure of how you can improve this site! thanks for sharing your goodies w/ us!!

  • Jessica I Says:

More stuff about things to DO, ways to stay social when you’re on a tight budget.
I also agree that a better web design could make it more eye-appealing. Less white.

  • Marcia Says:

I really enjoy your blog. I would like to see topics broken down (ie. all readers, east coast, south,…) so I don’t spend time reading a post for items not available in my area.

  • Heather Alderman Says:

I love your site! But I too would love to see the site jazzed up a bit more to make it more eye-pleasing. It would also be great to have some type of alert system to personalize the bargains such as an e-mail alert for favorite or local stores.

  • wanda Says:

Your blog site is a rockin!
    I love it!

    Maybe a little bloggy makeover?
    It is missing some BAM!!

  • LauraT Says:

I like the site and the content of the emails. They look fine to me. Keep up the good work! I really enjoy your articles and I have learned a bit and through you found other interesting websites as well.
What I would like to see is in the subject line of the email instead of “# new articles” if it said what the articles were about. For instance, “win products, granola recipe, free stuff & coupons, CVS deals” That way when looking at (or I often look back at) emails I can tell what links each has in it. You could abbreviate if you needed to, just to give us an idea.

  • JD Northwest Says:

Great site. Only improvement would be including more hyperlinks embedded into the articles to take us to the sites. That would be great for a lazy deal chaser.

  • Brigette Says:

The only thing I could really think of for improvement is maybe more in depth articles on occasion. I really enjoy reading credit tagged articles but sometimes I find myself wanting to read more.

  • Ashley Says:

I think some articles on the best way to save on major purchases would be helpful, specifically things like computers and mattresses, items which you don’t buy often but when you do you want to make sure you pick the right one (specifically, i am in the market for a new mattress and would love some tips or even some brands worth looking at and others worth skipping).

  • TONY TANNAHILL Says:

    I LOVE RECEIVING YOUR E-MAILS!!!!!!!!

  • amber waldenville Says:

would like to hear more about decorating on a budget!

  • Terri Says:

I love the content of your site and check it often. The only improvement I could say would be a little refreshing of your site. Perhaps a new header with some updated graphics.

Thanks so much for being there.

  • Sara Says:

I love all these “daily deals” that are going on these days. I found out about a bunch of them through your blog and I try to keep up with them all….but there’s so many Groupon type sites now that I just can’t keep up. It would be GREAT if you could consolidate all the Los Angeles Groupons, Tipprs, Screaming Coupons + on your blog so I don’t have to subscribe/open a ton of e-mails each day to find the local daily deals! If you did that I’d be on your site daily! =-)

  • colleen Says:

Hi BB, I love your site and FB page. If I had to add one thing ,perhaps a link to coupons for everyday items?. Other than that just keep doing what you are doing. :O)

  • Michelle Says:

Wow….I really do not think I would change anything. I like it just the way it is!

  • Shawna R Says:

I haven’t met you in person, but I enjoy when you share some of your personal experiences with your audience and readers. I like hearing about where your travels take you! :)

  • Jennifer Says:

maybe do a rating on the article 0-5stars… Let readers rate the article so you will know what we want more of or less of. I love your blog…thanks for the contest!

  • Susan Krauss Says:

I love the site very much! The only thing I would change is maybe include more color to the background! The white is nice but it would be cool to see some more color!

  • Gabrielle Says:

I love your blog & facebook!! Being able to get printable coupons directly from your site. But other than that I say it’s perfect as is!!

  • Kristin Says:

I love the article you did about having furniture redone at a trade school. Any more tips along these lines would be great!

  • Diane Palumbo Says:

I think I agree with Gloria; there are some great bargains, updates about up-coming 1/2 off sales, etc., on the site, and these are very much appreciated, but for the everyday things such as grocery, drug store, pet store coupons, there is not much. How about putting some of the sites where we can get these coupons, like freeflys, etc., in the blog once a week? I forwarded your site to my daughter in law, a military wife who left her job to be a stay at home Mom to their 3 little girls. She pinches a penny so tight it squeals, and appreciates any advice on how to save money

  • Diane Palumbo Says:

I think I agree with Gloria; there are some great bargains, updates about up-coming 1/2 off sales, etc., on the site, and these are very much appreciated, but for the everyday things such as grocery, drug store, pet store coupons, there is not much. • Tracey Kuzemczak Says:

I love you’re site, but a little bling goes a long way. Maybe redo your banner, and the layout….

  • J Wojcik Says:

Wow, Julia – look from where you’ve come – just the Daily News and now national! It’s hard to please everyone. I was concerned when I read of your move to the East coast,I thought we out west would be lost in the shuffle, but not so. Keep up the good work and don’t let the critics get to you!

  • Janet Says:

Consider hunting for major brands and comparing them to Outlets to national discount chains. For instance, I like Calvin Klein professional work dresses that retail at $125 – $200. I can find them at the outlets for $50 – $100. I’ve seen them at TJ Maxx at Marshalls for $35 – 60. I’ve seen one at Ross for $40. Occasionally, they’ve come up at thrifts but seldom in my size. Surprisingly, the best place for CK dresses is Loehmann’s for under $20 during a good sale.

So perhaps you can do some research for us in that vein.

  • Kendra Says:

I am a new reader, so I’m not sure I can make any worthwhile suggestions. I’ll try to visit more often and let you know!!

  • William Says:

Hi BB You should edit some of your guest bloggers. I know no writer wants to be edited, but some need to be.

  • Paulette Says:

I have followed you since the Daily News, and have enjoyed your blog tremendously! Good luck with your new home! I love that it is brief and to the point. I cannot think of any suggestions right now. Thank you!!

  • Gaelen Says:

I love the blog as is, but would love to see more video – just makes it all the more personal.

  • Pauline Says:

I have never seen so many replies on any of your topics. Perhaps that is a suggestion in and of itself to offer enticing prizes for comments/suggestions/area to improve in. I enjoy reading your blog and have for some time now. It’s light, yet informative and pertinent information. Keep up the great work!!!

  • sylvia Says:

I too have followed you since the Daily News, and was hooked the first time I read your blog. I really can’t think of anything that needs to be changed. Just keep doing what you are doing now and that works for me.

  • Bambi Says:

I wouldn’t change anything. I love your site.

  • chris @ yardsalequeen.com Says:

The only improvement I see would be adding a link under Frugal Living to http://www.yardsalequeen.com :) free yardsale tips and free tips on being a smart yardsale shopper

  • Lynda Says:

I think the logo change would be a great idea. A logo that speaks “Bargainbabe”! And I would also love to hear more personal stories but only if that is in line with your idea of this blog.

  • Allison Says:

I would like to see more information in the email rather than having to click to go to a webpage.

  • Ashton Says:

I can’t think of anything I’d want to change – I like the content and amount of posts…I have really enjoyed the video segments, perhaps more of those?
    :)

  • Natalie J. Vandenberghe Says:

No suggestions because I can’t think of any way to improve your site.
The only thing I would like to see that I haven’t seen yet is my name listed as a winner!

  • Jennifer Says:

I like it the way it is! One thing I would NOT change is that the email has just a few entries each day. That’s great. When newsletters start getting longer and longer, I lose interest.

  • Diane Klapper Says:

This is the 3rd reply that I tried and it wouldn’t accept my first 2 I did post my e-mail I don’t get it It was a very nice Post

  • jena Says:

currently I am looking for Back to school deals that are clothing related…not pencils, paper etc. But as far as improvement?? IDK…I think you are great. Your logo could use a little scrapbooky feel I guess. Thanks so much for saving us moolah!

  • jena Says:

not sure if my comment is going through :O( I said previously that I think you could use some scrapbooky flair to your logo and I am looking for great deals on clothing for back to school..I don’t need anymore pencils! Thanks so much for saving us money!

  • maria Says:

Hi Julia.. I just heve one suggestion! Some of us dont have acces to FaceBook. You mention on some of your blogs about other deals and blogs on your FaceBook page. Unfortunately I dont have acces to them.. How about donig somethig for Bargain Babe readers who dont have a Facebook account to also have acces to your FaceBook blogs and deals?

  • sylvia Says:

Remember that old phrase: It it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  • Gloria Says:

I would like to see more printable manufacturers coupons for grocery items people use everyday. I am a member of a couple of sites and its always the same things. Not your everyday grocery list items.

  • barbara Says:

Love your site just the way it is. :-)

  • Karen Thompson Says:

Maybe find some deals for those of us in the south (Florida), but other than that I appreciate what you do! Thanks!

  • Patti Says:

I would add to your blog a different colors, more bright and exciting. Just needs a little sprucing up. Offer more freebies as weel

  • victor Says:

The coupons and deals are cool…..the next step to this web site is sweepstakes.

  • Angelica Says:

As soon as you get deals that might not last…..PLEASE email us !!!

  • Crystal S. Says:

I would try to advertise more deals for us southeners. Other than that I enjoy your blog!

  • Cate Says:

I’ve only recently discovered you & your site.. So I can’t really suggest anything.. but I do enjoy reading your posts & emails..
    Thanks!

  • Jeanne Hartman Says:

Julie, I do love your daily newsletter. For me some days I am so busy and would love to have upfront a short hand list of deals/discounts that you write about. When I have time to read it all I do but some days I don’t and I think many people may have that challenge. The Cheat Sheet, or Short List could be set up so we could click on the item directly and quickly. Of course when I have time I read the WHOLE THING and enjoy it so much. Thanks
    Jeanne Hartman

  • Susan Says:

I think that including more of the post in email newsletters would be great.

  • Erin Says:

Anything you can do from making us have to scroll or click to other links is most appreciated! I love your blog…keep up the great work!

  • Maria Says:

I love your blog because it is very informative. However, I would like to have more about deals that happen on the east coast or get the blog earlier. Because you are on LA time, I get the blogs later in the day and by the time i look into the deal or the freebie…it is too late.

  • Christina Ellis Says:

In the subject line of the email that is sent, if there could be some summary words instead of just “4 new articles” say “Contest, granola, coupons, and CVS”. Just a thought. It may be an auto-generated email and changing the subject line may require someone going in to summarize everyday.

  • jackie whitlock Says:

I too would like a button to email to friends, otherwise a great site, needs no change.

  • Marilyn Brenden Says:

You are a very beautiful person. Why don’t you use photoshop to brighten up your image on the masthead. It looks too dark now.

  • shelley Says:

    More coupons..otherwise i love it

would love to win this, haven’t won anything in forever :(

  • Benjamin Says:

I would add a mobile app (I phone and/or Android) for digital “bar code” coupons as well. My girlfriend would love something like that for grocery shopping.

  • Tammy C Says:

I really don’t like having to click on the links in your e-mails in order to finish the articles. Other than that, I love it. Thank you!

  • Lisa Says:

I really love this site, which I discovered after reading the “Better Homes & Gardens” article. Since I’m new, I’m still exploring things and don’t really have much to say about improving the site yet. However, I do think a different, fun logo that more suits your fun style would add to the site. :)

  • Jennifer Says:

I like Marilyn’s idea… I know a good photographer who can get you great headshots! also, I love the idea of an app for my ipod, I check it everyday and have it with me all the time. Quick links on my ipod mean I will be able to read and catch up with your great deals even when I’m away from the computer. Also, any thoughts on recipe type articles? Bargain cooking/ dining/ eating?

  • Jessica @ Acting Adult Says:

I love the blog – and thanks for the giveaway!

The one thing I could live without is the CVS deals. I like the other content better!

  • calieldin Says:

Its great that your having the giveaway thanx! I personally like the site just might need a face lift. And perhaps a splash of color. Thanx again!

  • Pam Says:

I didn’t read every suggestion, so forgive me it this has been said. I agree a more total makeover is needed. But specifically, better type style, more bold and some other background color other than white. It looks dated and you are bargain forward. Thanks!

  • monica Says:

I would have to say that the header/design could use a little update to have some more pop. The content of the site is great, but the first time I was linked to the site I wasn’t drawn in visually and missed all the great info!

  • Sol Says:

I love that you include such a variety of stores, everything from Walmart and CVS to Old Navy and Banana Republic. How about highlighting some of the best Groupon deals out there? Obviously most are specific to geographic locations, but many are online only and available to everyone. Seeing those would be great!

  • Grace Says:

Love your blog, but I would agree with a few other posts that a site design would be great, particularly the logo which is somewhat ho-hum. Thanks!

  • Barb Says:

Would like to see more bargains that are widely spread across the US. Seems we were heavily leaning towards the West Coast and now it looks like we will be doing the East Coast. Please don’t forget about the rest of us!!!

  • Janice Says:

Maybe add an eco friendly section with tips for recycling/reusing? Saving money & saving the planet make a great combination!

I love when you had some homemade recipes for things that you would buy at the store too.

  • Pam A Says:

I love Bargain Babe. I would only change the site to be region specific. Maybe a link for different regions of the country because not all stores are nationwide. I always read stuff about a grocery store that is located on the west coast and I am on the east coast. Regionally specific tabs would be helpful.

  • Vicki Says:

Your blog is great! There could be some improvement, like more locally focused tabs (LA, NY, etc.) and also a way to save articles in a box or some other type of archive. Great work :)

  • Tia Says:

I love your articles and tips! Since many people have asked for additional grocery stores or less region specific shopping ideas I think maybe a grocery section or a series on shopping smart in different areas of the country, possibly with guest posts by bloggers in those areas might be a good idea? I love that even since you moved across the country the blog hasn’t had a big change! Hope you had fun at Blogher!

  • Amy Stanford Says:

    Update your logo :D

  • Cindy Says:

Sometimes when I click on the link to open (in new window) the article that I want to read, it does not open. So, now I do not delete your email until I have read your article.

  • Anna Says:

I love your site, I heard about it from a friend, then I have talked to several people about it and even got my mom on it. I love that you have a personal aspect, like talking about how you found your stuff out and always giving us useful tips. The only suggestion I might have is just spruce up the sight a bit, add “WOW” to it! And really that has nothing to do with the content, just more appeal to future subscribers!!! Thanks :)

  • Elizabeth Lourenco Says:

I love this website! One thing I would change is more budget friendly recipies:)

  • Paula Freeman Says:

Love your webiste ! I think a forum would be great to talk with other savers

  • Valerie Says:

Other than the site being a little plain, which really doesn’t bother me, I can’t find anything.

  • Mart Says:

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!! I think it’s awesome just the way it is!!!

  • Trina Says:

I think your site is awesome but it needs a little color and perhaps a little less clutter. I don’t know where to look first sometimes. Keep up the good work, though.

  • Kim H Says:

I love the site! I wish that the lists on the side wasnt so long …maybe group it into related thinks. The list on left just goes forever

  • Amy M Says:

I agree with some of the other posts about cheap/free family things. You could partner with another blog that specializes in it. Love your blog!

  • Nicole F. Says:

I really like your website! While you have links to the other blogs that you write in, it would be great to post those here as well, along with the videos, so we can read it all here! I really like the videos (aka do more please!), but the Ralph’s grocery deals??? Where is Ralphs?? Your audience has expanded beyond their market and it doesn’t make sense to do a weekly blog of just their deals. You either should expand to other stores as well as your readers expand too! Who knows how many states/cities follow you now! Survey perhaps?

    Keep it up! – nicole

  • D K Says:

I subscribe to your daily email and have always thought it would be great if your email subject line mentioned the biggest bargain for that day! That way if I’m in a a rush and have no time to read the entire email, I wont miss the biggest bargain

  • Julie Pittman Says:

I think it would be nice to have more tabs or something at the top to help find things a little easier. Right now I rely on your updates on facebook. Thanks!

  • Jennifer M. Says:

I love your site!! I guess I would like to see more dinner recipes. =)

  • Richard Evans Says:

It is sometimes frustrating to receive the emails after an offer has expired.

Also, I dont use facebook so offers that are posted there are not available to me. Would like an alternative way to participate in offers/contests presented there. Otherwise, I enjoy reading your notices.

    Thanks

  • Sandra E Says:

A more catchy logo would be great. I love your frequent updates.

  • Amanda Says:

What about adding some recipes using some of the great grocery deals you provide?

Even if that ends up being too much work, I love this site and refer to it each day. Awesome job!

  • Rachel Brister Says:

I think you should have a secition on your site called “How I Saved Today”. That way your readers could post on what a great deal they found while out and about or if they put your tips and suggestions to use and saved big. All the best and I look forward to your newsletter every day! -Rachel

  • Liz Says:

Thanks for thinking of us for this giveaway. I have read some of the comments on how to better your website and so many I have thought of are already submitted, so I will just say I love your site:)

  • Kaen D Says:

  • Andrea Says:

Love your site. How about more discounts for teenage boys?
    thanks

  • Sonia Says:

I love the site. I would like to see some stuff for kids. Some kind of saving on clothes (like a swap meet), coupons for clothes, toys. Anything that would be a savings for kids.

  • Christan Says:

I think to add a button at the top that says something like “This weeks steals” or something that would indicate posts from the current week would be really helpful. Thanks.

  • Laura Says:

I’ve been a follower of yours for a few years. Love the variety of discounts and coupons you post. Thank you!

  • Geri Says:

It would be nice if there were a section where you could search deals in your area. I do love the site as is, though!

  • Donna Says:

I’ve been following your site for several years and it hasn’t changed much. Your content is great. Most sites though seem to regularly update their sites with more color, add more pizzazz and the like. You could do likewise.

  • nicole lindsay Says:

that is a fabulous prize and i would love to win! I just love your articles and blog and I wouldn’t change one thing! THANKS!

  • N. Davis Says:

I’d love to see occasional posts with delicious, healthy and nutritious recipes that are quick, easy and also budget-friendly! OK, I know that’s a tall order, but if you can fill it, it would be SO helpful for all the busy, healthy lifestyle, on a budget kind of readers, even if it was just a once a week post featuring one recipe.

  • Melinda Says:

How about a tab for freebies or give aways that are ending today.. That way I know I need to take advantage of them NOW. Thank you for all you do!!

  • Kelle Cavanaugh Says:

Just found this site – looks great – I like to read how people have turned rummage sale or thrift store finds from trash to treasure.

  • Colleen Calver Says:

The only thing I would change is to wish you had MORE articles each day – I love your site!

  • Caity Says:

Maybe it’s just the photographer in me, but since you asked… maybe make the header colors go more smoothly with the pictures? It’s a really cute photos, but it would look great to lighten the photo and have the bg pick up more of the rosy tones & red of your shirt too!

  • katie Says:

I’d love to see more free sample offerings!!

  • colleen calver Says:

Only change I would like is for MORE, MORE articles – your site is a MUST READ!!!

  • Kim Says:

Latest printable coupons would be great!

  • Suze Hart Says:

I would just love more long term savings idea for the future

  • Karen Says:

I think it would be good to have short-term goals and long-term goals (short-term being good deals, how to erase credit card debt) and long-term (information on financial planning, etc).

  • Marlene Says:

I love your site and, like many others here, have been reading your column since the Daily News. I don’t know that the site needs improving, but a navigation menu might be nice, particularly if it included links to prior posts from earlier in the week.

  • Kristi Says:

I wish there was a spot on your site where readers could post what they need help saving money on and other readers could help by posting their ideas. Also, I agree with other readers that I would like to see more healthy, bargain priced recipes. Keep up the good work. Your site is great!

  • Lisa Says:

More freebies! Easier way to look up topics, blog on random thoughts, no reruns (eg, garden article already posted previously). O/w, really enjoy it. Thanks.

  • Joanna Says:

I love your site. I hadn’t really thought about improvements you could make until you asked. I’m wondering if you could have a tab for local deals for different areas. Maybe you could think about adding a section for people to ask for recommendations in different areas as well – such as when you asked for car repair places in LA.

  • n williamson Says:

it would be nice to be able to scroll down the page instead of having to click on a story to finish reading it.

  • Ellen Crawley Says:

I love any articles on repurposing, recycling, reusing!

  • Wendy Says:

I’m new to your blog and have been getting alot out of it. I’ve already used two of your tips! The only thing I would suggest changing is maybe to make the background a color instead of white to make it easier on the eyes. Thanks for all the useful info!

I would love sections about deals in various major markets! Perhaps you could have a guest blogger from Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago etc. Thanks for all you do!

  • Bing Says:

  • Beverly Barnes Says:

I love your site and only have one suggestion and that is to be able to do one click to share with a friend!

  • Marni L Says:

I’ve found that it’s a much more efficient use of my time to read any blogs that I find in a blog reader – so I can’t honestly say you need to change anything about your blog look. I do enjoy when something does apply to my area of the country (New England – welcome neighbor!), so to go along with other comments, maybe more regional info? It’s a hard question because I really don’t have any complaints! :)

  • Nancy P. Says:

Add bullet points to the top of the email that include the links instead of having to scroll down to read everything. Unfortunately I don’t always have the time to read, but the bullet points at the top would help me quickly find a bargain. BTW, I love all things ‘Bargain Babe’!

  • Renee MacLaughlan Says:

I love the idea of having guest bloggers giving saving suggestions from their area. Maybe once a week you could feature a different area?

  • Brandon S Says:

I would like to see some more weblinks to other short webinars pertaining to the topics you bring up.

  • Ruth Mckinion Says:

I definitely like a wider variety of store links. Also, I’m thinking travel deals would be nice to see, if not every time maybe once a month unless there is something really great that would need posting sooner. I know there are a lot of great deals, but finding them all is super time consuming.
Thank you though for an awesome blog!

  • Barb L Says:

I would love to win the swag contest!! Thanks!!

  • Anu Says:

Luv your site..I wait for your emails daily. If more deals are sent that would be really nice..

  • Barb L Says:

I would like to see a scenario of what you would pay for certain items at different stores.Price comparing across a few nationwide stores, such as Wal Mart, Target and Kmart. Could be top 10 items people use or a whole bunch of items. It would really be a time saver for a lot of us. We could pinpoint what products to by at what stores without actually going from store to store.~ Thanks, Barb

  • Lori A Says:

I think some featured “spotlights” on other cities would be nice…maybe interviews with a fellow frugal as to how they do it and what local resources might be helpful.

  • Beverly Barnes Says:

I love your site and only have one suggestion and that is to be able to one click to share with a friend!

  • Nicole Says:

I would update more frequently, and reference and crosslink articles from Consumerist and Bankrate where appropriate. The layout is also a little difficult to navigate. Something cleaner would be helpful.

  • jessica Says:

break some “bargains” down into sections. Like “how to”, “when to”, “where to”, and “why to”. you could also make each month have a specific topic and refer to it through out the month with everything else that is on the site.

    thanks

  • Jennifer Says:

  • Cristen Says:

I love the website and there’s not much I would change, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more color on the site itself. The header is a little dull and the background is just so white. Something a little more colorful without being overwhelming may be nice. :)
