I didn't realize you can use Skype on the iPod Touch.

The big news this week is that Apple has declined to allow a new app called Google Talk on the iPhone. I'm not 100 percent sure what Google Talk is, but its somewhat Skype-like, except I don't think it requires WiFi to operate. It somehow uses the cellular network but not the voice portion. ... anyhow, the refusal of Apple to allow this, coupled with Google CEO Eric Schmidt being on the Apple board in the first place and then resigning ... well, it's a big ol' mess.

The problem with WiFi for voice calls is that you have to be at the hotspot. This wouldn't work at all if you were "moving," as in a car, because you'd be out of the hotspot pretty quick. Cell carriers still have a legit service -- if only they didn't gouge us for it ...
