Another free activity: the Ethel M Chocolate Factory in nearby Henderson. There’s a short walking tour where you can view a small part of the factory through large picture windows. If you go on a weekday, you might see them making chocolate. On weekends, you can still take the walking tour and see the machinery, but there won’t be any activity. And while it’s free, you will surely be tempted to buy a box or two of their fabulous chocolate on your way out. They have few different-sized gift assortments in Las Vegas-themed boxes, which make a nice thank you gift for the friend whom you’ve asked to feed your fish while you were away.

From Las Vegas Blvd (i.e., the Strip), take Sunset Rd (which forms the south border of McCarran Airport) east about 5.6 miles. You’ll come to an intersection where Sunset Rd turns to the right, Mountain Vista is on the left, and Sunset Way continues straight ahead. Go straight ahead onto Sunset Way and you’ll enter an area that looks like an industrial park. Turn left at the next street (Cactus Garden Dr) and go to the end of the cul de sac. The factory will be on the left. Address is: 2 Cactus Garden Dr., Henderson 89015

There’s also a nice Botanical Cactus Garden, which is also free, adjacent to the factory (if you can stand walking around in the heat).

Since my Red Hat pals and I go to Vegas each year (this will be our 3rd annual trip), the suggestions could be of help. We usually stay downtown for the convenience of walking around, and take the bus to the Strip when we want to go there. I forwarded this piece to 3 gamblers in the group!

Good advice!…Been going to Las Vegas for about 26 years.. always business trade shows, and fun, but he mention some new thoughts and ideas. I also agree taking tissues and TP are not something to talk about. I hope he’s not the kind that stiffs waitress, yes they do get paid, and tips are important to them.

Just have to jump on the bandwagon — please, no more posts including info like “take the tissues and tp.” I come to this website to get info about frugality, and be inspired by other people’s smart ideas, not to become a cheapskate and — yes, I’ll say it — total douche.

Lysa, I’m so glad you didn’t break up with me! I didn’t know people did that with websites – you made me laugh! I’ve never taken tissues and tp, but I do usually take the soap and lotion if they are nice. Don’t hold it against me!

7. You can\’t bluff if you\’re short stacked, you do not have enough chips and Vegas is going to be afraid to bet against you. I learned the grocery store and coupons, and for never hearing about it before It was very easy to pick up. He remembers dollars well.
