goodshop logo with halo Feel good Fathers Day giftsJust heard about a way to buy a Father’s Day gift and donate to charity in one fell swoop. Use GoodShop.com to search for and buy your gift. The site has partnerships with more than 1,000 stores, including Amazon, Home Depot and GolfSmith, that have agreed to donate a percentage of each purchase to your (or your Dad’s) favorite nonprofit. The site also has coupons and deals.

To use the site, go to GoodShop.com and designate your favorite cause (you only do this the first time). Click through to your favorite store – shop on their site as you normally would and a percentage of your purchase will go to your cause!

Similarly, GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo powered search engine that donates about a penny per search to your favorite cause. When you first visit the site, designate your favorite cause, then search as you normally would. Each search gives about a penny goes to your cause!

I’ve been using GoodShop.com for awhile. Nice to see the word getting out!

An alternative, in memory of my deceased parents, I give directly to charities.

It’s usually tax deductible (check with your charity to be sure), and no middleman is involved, your charity of choice received all the proceeds.

Many have heard the stories of charities short on funding and others whose funds have disappeared due to fraud, but to me, I would rather give to a charity on my parents behalf even if they were living.

If my father were here, he would say to me he didn’t need anything and don’t spend the money, ok, so I didn’t…LOL, instead I give to a few charities on their behalf.

My local favorite is the SCV Food Pantry (since this blog is now nationwide, that’s the Santa Clarita Food Pantry in Santa Clarita, CA, just north of Los Angeles near Magic Mountain amusement park)
