The last of my freebie make up remover is gone, which means for two days after I get dolled up I have this mysterious look from my lingering eyeliner. Mystery is okay, but sometimes I don’t want to have my eyes lined at the grocery store. So how does one make homemade make up remover?
I searched online and came up with a promising suggestion: mix a tablespoonful of raw milk with a pinch of turmeric powder and a few drops of lemon juice and apply the mixture with a cotton ball.
I happened to have all these supplies on hand and happily went about mixing and applying. Unfortunately, the results were about as good as if I had used soap and water. When I rinsed the mixture off, my eyeshadow and eyeliner remained. My mascara had slipped onto the dark circles under my eyes. My skin was very soft, however.
For now, I’m a lady of mystery. But if you have a homemade recipe for removing oily makeup, I would be much obliged. And so would everyone else looking for a cheap home remedy!

Baby shampoo will remove makeup! put it on full strength and wash it off!
Even baby oil .. i know, oil and oil? .. but it works!

I know baby oil works too. The problem is you still need a cleanser to get the oily residue off.

Any lotion will remove make up, but you want to make sure to not use one that will sting if it gets in your eyes (this means no scented ones). My personal fave is Nivea, which I use for everything!
Just dab some on a Kleenex and your eye and wipe off.

For eye makeup a wee bit of moisturiser smeared on and wiped off does the trick, particularly with waterproof mascara.

i second the lotion trick- also it is great because most make up removers either leave my face to greasy or way to dry…. lotion is just right

I usually buy ponds cold cream in a huge tub. it leaves my eyes sooooo clean and smoothe and i’ve never had it dry out my face. Plus, its like $5 for a HUGE tub that lasts at least a year.

I use olive oil.

You can’t go wrong with Vaseline as an eye makeup remover. A tiny little dab removes mascara with no problem. I use so little that I usually feel like I should replace the jar because it’s so old before it actually runs out!

All great suggestions, and I love the recipe!

Problem with Vaseline is you then need to wash off the goopy residue with more than water. Lately I’ve been buying Pond’s Clean Sweep (wet cleansing towelettes) at Costco–135/box. Sorry, don’t recall the price; probably more than some of the other suggestions. But they work well, and I use one just before showering. Then, before I toss it, I use it to polish up the bathroom sink!

I make a 50/50 blend of sunflower and almond oils, put a little on a gentle baby wipe (Huggies Sensitive are my choice) and then wipe this across my face, paying close attention to the eye area. (You may have to do this 2 x before all traces of some tenacious makeup products are off your face.) Then, I use another wipe to remove any last traces of oil and then either just splash my face with plenty of luke warm water…. or if I feel the need…. I may also use a mild baby wash product to fully remove all traces of makeup, sebum and (remover) oil. Now, this may seem like a lot of work to some, but it really only takes a few minutes and your skin will thank you.
