dead plant Garden tip: OSH return policy for plants ROCKS!Is it too early to get your hands dirty and plant something? Depends on where you live. If you are starting to plan your spring or summer garden and live in California, consider buying your plants at OSH.

OSH gives store credit for plants bought from them that have died with the receipt. When I returned a dead plant the salesperson did not blink an eye before pulling out a black plastic bag and instructing me to dump the remains.

Live outside the Golden State? Perhaps a regional chain  has a similar policy. It never hurts to ask.

Other stores also have this policy. I have returned dead plants with receipt to Armstrong’s and to Home Depot. Also, if you purchase a plant and a pot at Home Depot, they will pot the plant for you using their potting soil!

Because I live very near the OSH on Sepulveda just south of Oxnard, I buy many products there, including plants. I’ve had very good luck with their herbs, and the woman who is usually in the garden shop is both knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve never had a problem with returns in any area. Another plus is their occasional ads for paying all sales taxes! It’s often a better bargain than discounted items.
Having said all that, it’s nice to know that Home Depot will pot plants for you.

Armstrong Nursery has this same policy. I’ve seen people bring the dead back and get $$$.

[...] three plants cost me $7.77 at OSH, which has a very lenient plant return policy. I kicked myself after I bought them because I remembered I still have $50 on a Home Depot gift [...]
