You may have noticed there is a new yellow button on the right side of Bargain Babe. It says Donate. The button is for readers who want to support my blog financially. I’m proud to say I have already received my first donation!
Donations are one way I make ends meet. So if you like reading Bargain Babe, or have saved money using my tips, keep it in mind. Thank you.

Hi I don’t have a website but hope this gets through.
Hey Julia did you write one time that when we click
on the google ads you get paid? Well I go to all of your
articles and each one seems to have different ads
that relate to the content of your articles. I click on
all of them because I want you to be successful. I love
your blog! I know quite a few people that would
enjoy your articles as well. Now I don’t remember how
to sign up for your site. I signed up just as you were
leaving your last job with the paper. I had gone to
that site because a favorite used bookstore, that you
had recommended in your articles from that paper,
told me about you. Went to your site at the newspaper only to find that that was your last posting! and there you told us how to sign up for
Bargain Babe. So let me know again soon, I have
been telling all of my friends about it and they are
all interested. (Very interested since many of us,
including me, are either on disability or are over
65 and have a very low income).
So is it true that you get a little money when we
click on these Google Ads? Perhaps you could
mention this again in one of your articles. Both
how to get friends to sign up and how to help you
be more successful. Please don’t go away. I will
be sad.
Thanks Carmen

Sorry, Julia, but I have a problem with your seeking donations. Yes, you present money-saving topics, but so, also, do many of your readers. However, you opted to go this route in your career change and must have had an inkling of the financial ramifications.
I am sure many will contribute to you, but it strikes me as a bit tacky.

Diane, thanks for your comment. I installed a donation button not because of the financial ramifications of working for myself but to give readers a choice to support the blog financially if they chose.

Hi this is carmen again. Just wanted to say
that I do not consider it tacky that Julia has made
this little button available. Just get over it.
Julia does most of the work here and there wouldn’t
be this kind of page out there for us if she hadn’t
gone to all the trouble to Design everything.
Once you do all of this and try to make it your
only source of income get back to her (and us)
and let us know how easy it was and no work
at all and that you really have no need for any extra.
It is not against the law. This is a legitimate business
venture and just think of it that way.

Back off, Carmen. First, my comment had nothing to do with how difficult it was for Julia to set this blog up. That was her decision and likely a labor of love. Second, neither of us is privy to her personal finances, so I am unclear as to how you know this is her “only source of income.” That said, I would not make something my only source of income that I hadn’t thoroughly researched and wasn’t as reasonably certain as possible could sustain me financially. I think it’s called being responsible. Also, I re-read my comment and saw no accusations of Julia’s doing anything illegal or illegitimate. I merely was offering my take on the matter as I believe I have a right to do. Finally, please re-read Julia’s less intense and defensive response. She seems quite capable of speaking for herself.
